Originally a Gothic water castle from the 13th century, built on the site of an earlier Romanesque structure. Significantly altered in 1523-30 in a reconstruction by Benedikt Ried; later adapted in Baroque, a finally, neo-Gothic style.
An English park a game enclosure is part of the grounds. Historical interiors with period furnishings a family collections (the Hunters’ Salon, family gallery, a Purkyně’s study.) The Knights’ Hall features wall frescoes from the 15th century. The naturalist Jan Evangelista Purkyně worked at the chateau as a private teacher.
