About Czech Republic
Dobříš
An extensive Rococo chateau in the French style, with an ambitiously designed French-style garden and an English park.
The present face of the chateau dates from 1745 - 1765, when the reconstruction was realized by Jindrich Pavel Mannsfeld. His daughter Isabella was married Frantisek Gundakar Colloredo. This way the noble family of Colloredo – Mannsfeld was founded. They lived there until 1942, when the chateau was confiscated by the German Empire, and later confiscated by the Czechoslovak State in 1945, and used as the Home of writers.
In 1998 the chateau and the French and English park were returned to a private ownership. The current owner of the chateau is Dipl. Ing. Jerome Colloredo-Mannsfeld of Austria.
The historical interiors feature valuable furnishings from the Rococo and Classicist periods. The formal rooms include the richly decorated Mirror Hall, a library with family portraits, and a neo-Renaissance dining hall. In the park, visitors will find the so-called “Devil’s Bridge”, subject of a local legend.
