Places of natural beauty for the disabled

The Czech Republic is a country of architectural heritage and of extraordinary places of natural beauty. A large number of these places such as national parks and nature reserves can be visited by the physically handicapped thanks to disabled access facilities.

Adršpach, part of the Adršpach – Teplice rock formations, has become a popular place for trips involving wheelchair users. The disabled access amenities at the car park with special bays for the disabled, special pathways with access ramps leading through the rock formations and a flooded quarry with good disabled access make a carefree day out.

Another great place for those in wheelchairs to visit is the Moravian Karst. On detailedcycling and walking maps you will find a large number of pathways with disabled access which means it is easy to get around the sites without having to overcome huge obstacles. You can also get to the top of the famous Macocha Gorge by cable carwithout great difficulty.

The beauty of the Lednice – Valtice Area (a UNESCO-listed area) also attracts physically handicapped visitors. The magic of the chateau parks in Lednice and Valtice can be seen from a wheelchair without great difficulty and there are the necessary facilities available (disabled access to toilets and restaurants) as well as hotels with disabled access.

Many well-marked pathways for the disabled also lead through the beautiful Jizerské Mountains and the Šumava Region. Special maps showing routes for wheelchair users help you plan a day out, and these can be obtained from local information centres or the Paraple Centre in Prague’s Malešice District.
