History and architecture made fun

Are your children tired of yawn-provoking school lessons or saturated with educational computer programmes? Take them out into the real world, where historic monuments are far from dead artefacts.

Take your children on the historic tram through the centre of Prague and have a look at the most frequently visited Czech monument, Prague Castle. According to the Guinness Book of Records, Prague Castle is the largest in the world. This monumental structure can also, through the exhibit The Story of Prague Castle, tell you and your children the tale of its own history… while the grown-ups look at the exhibits and the interactive 3D plans, children can play the captivating Castle Game, where they pass through the exhibit in the role of real historical personages, complete different tasks and at the end are awarded interesting prizes.

Outside of Prague, it is not far (only 25 km to the west) to the famous Gothic castle of Karlštejn. If you visit this remarkable castle at the end of September, you can meet with Emperor Charles IV and his court in person, and experience the authentic medieval Karlštejn Wine Festival. Parents can taste the excellent wine or young wine from the castle vineyards, while children will fall speechless with wonder when joining in the historic imperial procession full of jugglers, knights in armour, courtiers, musicians, thoroughbred horses and such exotic animals as camels and snakes. The procession leads up to the castle, where further adventure awaits in the form of knights’ tournaments, performances of medieval dances or fencing matches. After viewing the excitement in the castle courtyard, a respite comes in the form of a tour of the interior.
