About Czech Republic
Shopping, toys, gifts
Prague’s shopping possibilities are on a level equivalent to anywhere in Europe, yet at the same time causing relatively little financial pain.
• Great gifts to bring back from holiday in the Czech Republic could be glass jewellery, crystal, Bohemian garnets or natural cosmetics from a company called Botanicus.
• Younger children will certainly enjoy traditional Czech wooden toys, the manufacture of which has a tradition going back two centuries.
• Large shopping centres can be found both within Prague (Flora, Anděl), as well as its outskirts (Zličín, Černý Most, Letňany). All of these are easily reached by metro or other public transport.
• The most popular shopping streets are Pařížská and Příkopy. In the very historic heart of the city, they provide many shops and boutiques of international brands.
Nearly all larger shops and shopping centres have children’s corners, where impatient offspring can play while you look undisturbed for their presents.
Quite often, dads and kids find that shopping is not really their cup of tea, so while the mothers head off for the shopping centres, the rest of the family can, for example, go for a run on rollerblades in the Prague parks of Letná or Stromovka. The rollerblades themselves can of course be hired. In the Prague suburb of Radotín young and older racers can enjoy the largest indoor go-kart track in Europe.
