A Splendid Summer of Festivals

Rock, pop, jazz, metal, hip hop... Audiences at summer open-air festivals will enjoy these and other genres.

The schedule of events taking place under the open sky this year is once again truly great, and music fans thus can look forward to an eventful summer.

United Islands, 24–26 June 2010, Prague
This festival takes place in Prague’s historic centre on the islands of the Vltava. The event organisers have set themselves the task of attracting new and fledgling performers and presenting them to the broader public. Rock, pop, jazz and other genres will be heard at the festival. This year’s main attractions include the singer Amparo Sánchez and the guitar quartet The Cinematics.

Rock For People, 3–6 July 2010, Hradec Králové
This multi-genre festival features a high concentration of foreign groups of all genres, while its organisers also take pride in the quality food and beer selection. What’s more, special transportation for visitors from Germany and Great Britain will be prepared this year for the first time. Confirmed acts include the renowned group Prodigy.

Colours of Ostrava, 15–18 July 2010, Ostrava
Colours of Ostrava, another multi-genre music festival, will be held in a park area near the city centre so that you can enjoy a true summertime atmosphere without leaving the city. Concerts will take place outdoors and in clubs. Celebrated acts this year include Iggy Pop & The Stooges and The Cranberries.

Masters Of Rock, 15–18 July 2010, Vizovice
Once again this year, this open-air rock festival promises a “summer mega charge of excellent music”. Both rock and metal will be featured at the festival. Fans should be sure not to miss the American band Manowar or the record attempt by Mike Terrana to become the first drummer in the world to play drums in four different performances in a row in a single day on one stage.

Sázavafest, 5–7 August 2010, Kácov
Audiences at Sázavafest will enjoy rock, pop, jazz as well as other genres. Organisers will keep fans in a bit of suspense as they will not publicise two of this year’s main stars until mid-May. In addition to music, the festival also will offer other entertainment opportunities such as films, theatre, workshops and more.

Eurotrialog Mikulov, 13–15 August 2010, Mikulov
The motto of this open-air alternative festival is “Just another music!”. The programme will feature artists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria encompassing such genres as world music, rock and alternative music. Plastic People of The Universe will be one of the stars from the Czech scene.

Hip Hop Kemp, 19–21 August 2010, Hradec Králové
One of the largest hip-hop festivals in Europe, this festival offers all genres of hip hop. This year, the organisers are luring fans with such acts as Q-Tip and Boot Camp Click. Festival attendees also can look forward to an interesting accompanying programme including aquazorbing and mud wrestling.
