Advent program at chateaux in the Czech-Moravian Highlands

Although monuments are closed in the Highlands after the high tourist season, some of them will be again open over Advent weekends.

Accessed sights offer visitors Advent programs full of Advent concerts, exhibitions in the Christmas atmosphere, Christmas markets and other events.

On Sunday 28th November, the program will start the Christmas concert „Songs of patience“ in the Pilgrim Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora in Zdar nad Sazavou. The lutenist Jindrich Macek will present spiritual songs and lute compositions of Renaissance England.

The second Advent Sunday, on May 12, 2010, will bring a concert in the library of Namest nad Oslavou Chateauin Trebic Region. You will hear spiritual songs and compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou Chateau will offer the Christmas exhibition on the history of bread over the weekend 11- 12 December. During these two days there will be also Christmas craft market and various theatrical performances.

Telč Chateau prepares two exhibition – “Monuments through the eyes of children” and “The Chateau herbarium” in the Judicial Hall of the chateau in the end of Advent. Visitors will also see live Christmas crib at the chateau. Children can make a candle or greeting cards during Sunday afternoon on 19th December.
In the premises of the National Gallery of Telč Chateau, visitors can see an exhibition called "Toys do not grow old”, which is devoted primarily to toys of inland production from 1920s – 1980s. Most of the exhibited items come from a family toy museum in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. A big pedal car made by Sodomka Company in 1930 is certainly a great attraction both for boys and men.The exhibition is complemented by reproductions of old photographs with children's motifs from preserved chateau album and genre portraits of children produced by Czech and Moravian photographic studios from the first third of the 20th century. The exhibition will be open from 20th December by the year end.
