Alfons Mucha – Master of the “Belle Epoque” – The Moravian Gallery in Brno

This exhibition of Alfons Mucha presents more than 100 of Mucha’s pivotal works,

comprised mostly of posters and drawings, with the addition of paintings, photographs, drawings and watercolour drafts for his decorative commissions.

The emphasis is placed on Mucha's Paris period, when Alphonse Mucha, at the turn of 1894 - 1895 after the success of theatrical poster Gismonda for the French actress Sarah Bernhardt, received a six-year contract for working in her Theater de la Renaissance and during the short time he became a world-famous artist. The second part of the exhibition introduces examples of Mucha's work created during his American stay, and after his return to Prague, where is already reflected his interest in questions of Slavic history and in his poster work is dominated symbolic Slavic motifs.
