An Attractive New Year’s menu
Imaginative, amusing, splendid… and fun for everyone. With such words, one can describe the offer of New Year’s programmes in the metropolis as well as other places in the Czech Republic.
Organisers have arranged events for families with children, young people, sportsmen and all those wanting to treat themselves to something special. Here is our New Year’s menu.
For young and old alike
Every year, the people of Prague and tourists head to Old Town Square to spend New Year’s Eve in the historic city centre. Here they enjoy a rich cultural programme and warm themselves with hot punch or mulled wine bought at a stall. Families will surely welcome the New Year’s afternoon programme for children in Old Town Square.
Fireworks over Prague
On the first day of the year, take a walk through the centre of Prague. It will be enlivened by fireworks, which are always on display in the metropolis on New Year’s Day (usually starting at 6 p.m.) and can be seen well from the banks and bridges of the Vltava.
For culture lovers
The metropolis offers a lot to all those wishing to season the last day of the year with culture. You can take in the ballet performance Goldilocks at the Stavovské divadlo. The Prague State Opera is preparing an entire New Year’s gala evening. Classical music fans will surely savour the New Year’s concert of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at the Rudolfinum.
New Year’s Eve (not only) for the young
Almost every club and discothèque is preparing a New Year’s Eve programme. Among the famous Prague clubs, for example, Lucerna Music Bar will host a party in the style of the 80s and 90s on New Year’s Eve. Prague is not the only place to live it up, however. On the famous Stodolní street in Ostrava, for instance, you will find dozens of clubs, bars and pubs all in one place. Here you can truly let your hair down on New Year’s Eve!
Celebrations for the curious
A rich medieval programme will be held in the medieval tavern Dětenice in the Bohemian Paradise (“Český ráj”). Organisers promise lively entertainment, full pitchers and tables groaning under the weight of food, as well as fireworks.
Entertainment also can be found at the chateau Zbiroh, located between Prague and Pilsen. On New Year’s Eve, a baroque carnival and other divertissements are held. Here, too, you will eat like royalty and enjoy fireworks. As a practical matter, both places house a hotel.
For sporting families
The town of Liberec is surrounded by mountains and is the perfect place for your winter holiday (by the way, here one can take a tram almost straight to the ski slopes). If you go skiing there at the close of the year, be sure not to miss the big New Year’s Eve party at the Babylon entertainment complex. The music of dance orchestras and bands will resound in eight halls altogether. You are welcome to bring your children along, too, as there will be a children’s corner with Ferda the clown until 11 p.m.
Inspiration for those wanting something special
New Year’s cruise through historical Prague, an experience you will not soon forget. You can relish a memorable New Year’s Eve in spas, too. The four- or five-day New Year’s package of famous hotels of Karlovy Vary is certainly inviting. During a four-day New Year’s gastronomy stay at Bukovanský mlýn in south Moravia, you will sample genuine Moravian folklore. Many interesting events are prepared throughout the stay, and on New Year’s Eve guests can dance and listen to dulcimer music.
