An exhibition in honour of butchers
Fathom the secret of butcher's guild, and discover the magic of this profession at the National Agricultural Museum in Prague.
You will see a variety of tools and objects associated with butchers, an exhibition dedicated to Jewish butchers, who must abide by rules of kosher during slaughter and meat processing. There is also an example of premises from the 20th century.
This new exhibition of the National Agricultural Museum is dedicated to butcher and pork butcher´s craft. The 700th anniversary, when butchers won the silver lion on a red field in their character by John of Luxembourg in 1310, falls on this year. It was awards for a help during defence of the capital against Carinthian forces. Butchers also received various privileges and prerogatives which were confirmed to the butcher's guild by other rulers until the dissolution of the guild system in 1859, when trade regulations were newly released.
There are many interesting objects on display at the exhibition, such as signboards, billboards and price lists, the treasury, ceremonial uniforms and many others. A part of the exhibition is devoted to Jewish butchers, who followed special rules in killing of animals. You can admire kosher knives, knife boards and sharpeners. The exhibition is supplemented by period photographs, samples of meat processing, butcher's premises from the mid-20th century, and cookery-books.

A collection of historic agricultural engineering, one of the most type-comprehensive collection of its kind in Europe is the most important collection of the National Agricultural Museum.
The exhibition on an area of 520 m2 presents the most important items (tractors, threshing machines) from the collection of agricultural engineering of the National Agricultural Museum. All exhibition is conceived as a story that will guide visitors through the history of mechanization of exacting work of farmers. The permanent exhibition has interactive character and includes electronic games, educational and training programs, small test to obtain a driving licence for children and a possibility to try (touch) a tractor and take a picture with it.
The exhibition is located in the new hall in the basement of the building of the museum (Prague 7, 44 Kostelní Street).
