Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc
Olomouc, the Moravian metropolis, has since long been the seat of the university and Moravian bishops. Rich artistic collections of the Olomouc diocese collected in the course of thousand years of its duration are made accessible in the first museum of its kind in the Czech Republic.
The Archdiocesan Museum that will welcome the first visitors in June, 2006, has its seat in the neighbourhood of the dome of St. Wenceslas, in the historically significant area of the former Premyslid castle with Romanesque palace of the bishops. The pillar of the project is the permanent exposition of spiritually oriented culture a part of which is also the picture gallery with top painters‘ works collected by the bishops and archbishops of Olomouc since the 16th century. Represented in the collections are the works by Sebastian del Piombo, Jacop Bassan, Karel Škréta and others. Apart from a number of halls for short-term exhibitions, in the object there is also a café and the concert hall Mozarteum, named to the memory of the famous composer and his stay in Olomouc.
