Autumn harvesting of ponds attracts tourists

A great interest of public led fishermen to prepare harvesting of ponds for tourists with an attendant programme with playing music, refreshment and prize competitions for children and adults.

Fish culture has a long tradition in the South Bohemia. Some ponds have been established in the Middle Ages and in addition to fish cultural function make an important landscape feature and document the history of the region.

Fishing festival in Trebon and Trebon region culminates in harvesting of Dvořiště pond
This year's fifth annual Fishing festival is not firstly organized as a single event. A part of the program will be a harvesting of Dvořiště pond, which will be held on 30/10 to 2/11/2009. In addition to watching the work of Třeboň fishermen there will be an accompanying program in the embankment of the pond from Friday to Sunday.

The harvesting of Dvořiště pond covering an area of 387 ha, located near the village of Lomnice nad Lužnicí, will follow august festival in Trebon and the Trebon region.

Program includes:
Harvesting - every day from 7.00 am to 3.00 pm
Demonstration of traditional fishing craft
Offer of fish specialties and wine Znovín Znojmo
Sales of live fish (Třeboň carp) and fish products, including smoked fish
Accompanying entertainment events

Not only for harvesting of ponds you can visit the Trebon region:
Trebon – a spa town with a Renaissance chateau. Historic interiors, chateau stables with an exhibition on horse breeding and training, in the dungeons the visitors can see the exhibition the Ghosts and Spooks of the Crown Lands of Bohemia.
Třeboň Region – UNESCO biosphere reservation and a protected landscape area. The adaptations of the original marshes transformed the landscape into a sophisticated network of artificial streams and lakes. Varied wetland and water plant species, preserved meandering rivers.
