Best tourist offers in the Czech Republic: Znojmo underground and Techmania Museum

This year, Znojmo and Pilsen can boast the best tourist offers in the Czech Republic.

The tours of the mysterious underground in Znojmo and the interactive museum Techmania Science Center in Pilsen were awarded first prize in a competition held by CzechTourism. Visitors to the website www.kudyznudy.cz and representatives of the districts and regions of the Czech Republic sent in their tips for the competition. From these, an expert panel selected the best ones. Both winning offers take advantage of the playfulness and curiosity of visitors, and, at the same time, both offers take place in premises recently opened to the public.

The underground corridors in Znojmo are the longest in the Czech Republic. They comprise a labyrinth of corridors 25 kilometres long that, at certain stages, are conducted at up to four levels above each other. The new guided tour opened in March 2009 will give visitors both big and small a little scare as well as amusement. On the tour, they will see, for example, fairy-tale characters, an alchemist’s workshop, rocks brought to life and a prison dungeon.

Techmania Science Centre is an interactive museum that brings children and adults closer to technology and science in an entertaining way. It is divided into four exhibitions: Edutorium (60 interactive exhibits), MáToHáček (puzzles, brain teasers and science-related toys), Copyright Nature (nature as an inspiration for science) and the Škoda Historical Exhibition (the historical development of Škoda enterprises to date).
