Bowling a felloe´s wheel from Lednice to Brno

A felloe´s wheel race is held according to a legend of Brno every year. This year it goes on Oct 4, 2008.

An old legend of Brno tells about a skillful wheelwright Jiří Birk, who managed make a felloe´s wheel from morning twilight and bowl it from Lednice to town gates of Brno untill sunset. A chief magistrate Gabriel Grimm let hang up the wheel to a town hall in an immortal memory. This wheel and a Brno drake are ranked among two main symbols of Brno from this time.

This legend is revived every year by a team competition. The three-member teams relay a wheel from Lednice to Brno. One person has to bowl the wheel and the others ride on bicycle, a scooter or on foot.

The race insists not only on quickness and style but also on an atmospheric costumes. The organizer provided wheels, which were made specially for this event in Romanian Banát.

Main award for winning team: sightseeing flight by balloon.
