Caves kick off the tourist season

Do you wish to undertake a truly original excursion? Then head to a cave. In the Czech Republic, there are precisely 14 of them for people to explore.

The tourist season has already got under way at all places but one, which for the time being is providing a shelter to hibernating bats, will open at the start of May.

Undoubtedly the most popular area where tourists can explore caves is the Moravian Karst in South Moravia. You will also find there the Punkva Caves with their beautiful stalactite structures. The local circuit also includes the well-known Macocha Abyss and motorboat trips on the underground Punkva River.

In the Central Bohemia region near Karlštejn Castle, you will find, for example, the Koněprusy Caves, which comprise the most extensive karstic cave system in Bohemia.

The Bozkov Dolomite Caves in the Liberec area, on the other hand, form the longest dolomite caves in the Czech Republic and also feature the largest underground lake in Bohemia.

Zbrašovské Aragonite Caves in the Zlín Region arose by the hot underground springs and are the only accessible cave of that type in the Czech republic. Nearby the caves is the deepest abyss in the Czech Rebulic – the Hranická Abyss, partly flooded (the measured depth is 329,5 m).

Mladečské caves in Olomouc Region are created by leap tunnels, halls and chimneys. First of all they are important by a number of archaeological finds from the Early Stone Age.

The Chýnov cave near Tábor with extraordinary variegated walls and ceilings was discovered in 1868 and was the first cave opened to tourists in the Czech Republic.
