Český Krumlov welcomes spring and celebrates Egon Schiele

Snow has disappeared from cobbled streets, sunrays lean on colorful facades of houses, castle bears have awakened from hibernation - all this means the coming of spring to the picturesque town Český Krumlov.

From 1 April gates will be opened at the State Castle Český Krumlov, Museum of building history and trades, the International Gallery of Fine Art or the Graphite Mine. A surrounding of the town will also awake. From April you can visit the State Castle Rožmberk, the Zlatá Koruna Monastery, as well as an observatory on Kleť.

The town will celebrate Easter from Thursday 1st April to Monday 5th April. The Square of Concord will come to life by the Easter market, where stallkeepers and craftsmen will offer not only their products, but also folk-costumes and food. On Sunday 4th April you can visit the Passion play at the monastery garden.

A significant anniversary, which Český Krumlov celebrates this year, is 120 years since the birth of the controversial painter and world-renowned artist Egon Schiele. On this special occasion the Egon Schiele Art Centrum has prepared an unique exhibition. From 17 April, you can view his paintings, borrowed from around the world. Among them those that have never been exhibited. This extensive exhibition will be complemented by works of contemporary reputable artists, who create on the topic of Schiele works. It will be really interesting to see how contemporary artists are inspired by Schiele. The exhibition also includes a newly opened special library and reading room, where you'll find tens of books on Schiele and catalogs of his exhibitions.

The spring celebrations will complete the Magical Krumlov on 30 April and 1 May. At this festival there will be fun for both children and parents. In the evening, the May pole will be erected, lampion´s procession will shine the night and all will be accompanied by a pleasant music of bands from Český Krumlov. On Saturday you will have unique opportunity to kiss under the blossom cherry-tree in the square of Love (Square of Concord), or to get a unique romantic photography at the Museum Fotoatelier Seidel.
