Czechs celebrate the holiday of love – twice!

Just a few years ago, the Czechs were not too much caught up in the Valentine’s Day mania. But today, all that is changed:

the February holiday of lovers has settled in here, announcing its arrival by flooding the stores and flower shops with red colour. In the Czech Republic, however, lovers celebrate their holiday one more time: on the 1st of May. Their patron is the romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha and his verses “Late evening, on the first of May—The twilit May—the time of love...”

Romance of the Czech cities
Praguehasmany fitting attributes, but if we choose just one – “Romantic Prague” – that says it all. The hundred-spired metropolis on the Vltava River offers plenty to please a romantic’s soul: scenes as if cut out from an old movie, cosy cafes, top-class restaurants, luxurious hotels, and evening river cruises. But you can try something more: a visit to the tropical green house Fata Morgana will pull you into a world of bright colours and fragnances, the museum of chocolate will allow you to discover the secrets of that sweet delicacy, and you can show your good taste when visiting any of the culture institutions. If you want to escape from the bustle of the big city, take your beloved to Český Krumlov. One of the world’s most beautiful historic cities, it could have been created just for roaming in pairs…

Like a prince and a princess
An invitation to spend a weekend in a castle? Who could turn that down? Hundreds of well-preserved castles and chateaux remain in the Czech Republic, and that means those who appreciate something original in accommodation have much from which to choose. The romantic castle Hrubá Skála that is situated in the rocks of the Czech Paradise, the first five-star hotel in the countryside Chateau Mcely, or the original classicist Chateau Kotěra – these are just a few examples of the wide selection.

Dreaming in a spa
Massages, aromatherapy, walks and pleasant indulgences… It may very well happen that you will come to enjoy your stay in a Czech spa so much that you will wish to extend it. Nothing is easier than arranging a special stay for two in, for example, Luhačovice or Třeboň.

St. Valentine’s Day on skis
Finally, this year’s winter is what it should be: cold and with a lot of snow. Take advantage of these great conditions and go to the mountains. During the day, you can let yourself go on the ski slopes, and then you can spend your evenings alone or with your friends in any of the cosy mountain chalets or hotels.

Exhibition on love and eroticism
Through 15 February, visitors to Brno can enjoy the distinctively named exhibition 100,000 years of sex. They will learn how society’s perspective on eroticism and sex has changed from the Stone Age up to the 19th century. This is all illustrated by means of 250 exhibits borrowed from 60 European museums.
