Ending of season at Solvay's Quarry open-air museum
Last Saturday in October is traditionally dedicated to a closing ceremony of the season in a museum of nature - Solvay's Quarry open-air museum near the route from St. John under the cliff to Karlstejn.
A meeting of old friends in the beautiful landscape of Bohemian Karst will be held traditionally at the end of the season at Solvay's Quarry open-air museum. Here will be seen a stable engines, old cars, carbide lamps, models of engines and many other historical objects, which will allow us to return to the old days.
For photographers and filmmakers are prepared three "charming" rides at the local track. In the case of fair weather the rides will be held at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and most of mobile locomotives including historical sets are prepared here.
Guided tours of the museum, however, take place commonly every hour.
The most interesting sight of the museum is the 600 mm gauge field railway that represents a graphic illustration of the transport of raw materials in side-tipper carriages pulled by a diesel locomotive and the undeground tunnel.
The guided tour lasts maximum 90 minutes, begins a tour of the museum, followed by a ride and tour of the underground tunnels.
Buildings with remains of technological devices are found in a canceled limestone quarry Paraple in the countryside of the Bohemian Karst between the villages Saint John under the cliff, Bubovice and Lodenice. All year round, you can freely walk the marked trails, view free accessible exhibits and by the illustrative information boards get an idea of mining, transport and processing of limestone.
