Fairytale Stránov Chateau is open year round
About why the chateau is known as one of the most fairy chateau in the Czech Republic, you can ascertain yourself.
A Neo-Renaissance Stránov chateau you can find in the village Jizerní Vtelno near Mladá Boleslav in the well-known tourist region The Bohemian Paradise.
The chateau is newly open all year, but there are still ongoing partial reconstruction of interiors and exteriors.
Here you can walk castle interiors with a commentary about history, visit a hall with a gothic chapel, see a collection of beetles and butterflies, and historic motorcycles Jawa or renovated interiors with replicas of antique furniture. You can climb up a Gothic tower with a view of the valley of the river Jizera. The guided tour includes the Renaissance arcade and a bailey too.
There is also a small gallery with an exhibition of paintings by Jan Pilvein.
The chateau offers a number of cultural events, including three festivals – Vtelno parade, a country Hillbilly & Czech Music Festival and Castle Reggae Fest.
The history of the chateau
In place of the present chateau there was originally a wooden fort, which was reminded in the 1429. It was rebuilt on a gothic castle by Jaroš of Sovojovice between 1463 - 1468 and was called Nový Stránov. The castle owned a few noble families during the history – for example Berka´s and Slavata´s noble family, which rebuilt the castle into a Renaissance chateau. As well a family of a president of Skoda factory Josef Šimonek, who was ennobled thanks his deserving of industrial development. This family lived here until nationalization in 1948 and again keeps the chateau from 2003.
