Festival of Military History at Helfštýn Castle
Parade of unit of troops and clubs of living history with a rich program for the whole family. During the festival Helfštýn Castle in Olomouc Region will turn into a lively battlefield.
More than 150 performers from both clubs of military history and of historical fencing, as well as many other artists will come together at the castle over the weekend 22nd and 23rd May. Visitors will enjoy the atmosphere of war with a lot of events.
At the festival of military history visitors will see how wars were made and how it was fought in the past historical epochs. Various theatrical performances, falconers and a shooting range are also on the programme. There will not be missing demonstrations of period crafts, such as a military camp or a lecture on the development of firearms.
The festival offers to visitors a cross section of military history from the ancient Romans and Slavs through warfare in the Middle Ages, freelances of Renaissance times, examples of warrior arts of the Thirty Years War and of the Napoleonic conflict up to the Prussian-Austrian war in the second half of the 19th century.
The castle is one of the most important monuments belonging to the Olomouc Region and thanks to its average annual attendance in the last decade is one of the most visited tourist sites in the region. The landscape around Helfštýn Castle attracts to cycling and tramps, and its location in the centre of the Moravian Gate offers amenities and good accessibility to visitors from miles around.
