Fishing Festival 2010
Enjoy a fishing festival in Třeboň last summer weekend.
The sixth annual of the festival will be held on 28 and 29 August 2010. The main part of the program will take place in the Masaryk square in Trebon. In October 8 – 10, the traditional harvesting of pond Rožmberk will go on.
Visitors of the festival can see demonstrations of fishing craft, fishing traditions and an exhibition of fishes. There will be a selection of fish specialities of Třeboň carp and other fishes of Třeboň. Beer lovers can drink beer of the brewery Bohemia Regent from Třeboň. In the square there will be a fair with demonstrations of traditional crafts. Fishing competitions are ready for children as well as adults. A bicycling trip over Třeboň Region will lead participants to the largest Czech pond – Rožmberk.
On the occasion of the celebration the State Regional Archive in Třeboň has prepared an exposition on the history of the pond fish culture in Třeboň Region. The Archive will be opened on Saturday, 28th August from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to see archival history of fish farming in South Bohemia, in particular in Třeboň Region. There will be also exposed historical maps of the largest ponds, technical drawings documenting the construction of ponds and a progression of the harvesting. On Saturday you can enjoy fireworks on the pond Svět (World) at 10:30 pm. The festival will be complemented by performances of music groups and another rich cultural program.
The old town of Třeboň, originated in the 12th century, is situated on the mildly waved landscape in the south Bohemia. Well-preserved historic centre of the town became conservation area. The spa, the Renaissance chateau with attached parks and the large artificial lake Svět create an attractive complex with unique diversity. Deep forests and a lot of colourful artificial lakes create a beautiful landscape. The whole region is a protected area and the biosphere reserve of UNESCO. The landscape has been cultivated from the original swamps and peat bogs for centuries.
