Folk Christmas in the Polabí area

Traditional Christmas exhibition is located in the whole area of the Ethnographic Museum of the Polabí area – open-air museum of folk architecture in Přerov nad Labem.

Do you prefer to look at history from a slightly different point of view? Wouldn’t you like to know what Czechs believed in the past? The open-air museum in Přerov nad Labem transport visitors to a world of forgotten Christmas customs and traditions.

Scenes from the life of our ancestors in the interiors of the cottages of all museum complex present ancient customs and traditions in the time of Advent and from Christmas holidays to the Day of Three Kings. There are prepared St. Nicolas with presents, Christmas markets and Christmas Eve with all the predictions and superstitions as well as carols. You can see a preparing for Christmas time in the kitchen. The exhibition is accompanied by a number of old folk and church nativity scenes and present-day nativity scenes from various materials, examples of Christmas decorations, instructions for a production of Christmas ornaments and small gifts. A special part of the exhibition consists of a large collection of paper Nativity scenes and Christmas postcards from the museum collections.

This year's enhancements include a large collection of museum collections "Children's toys and books under the Christmas tree 1900-2000 and Christmas crib of Přerov nad Labem by painter Jiří Škopek.

The museum presently has a total of 33 buildings, including seven cottages, seven granaries and two barns.

It is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. From 25th December the museum is open daily. On Christmas Day on 24th December is closed.
