Furstenberg Garden (Furstenberská zahrada)
The Fürstenberg Garden below Prague Castle has reopened for the public to visit. The most easterly located and largest of the terraced palace gardens in this part of Prague is a unique example of garden design.
Renovation work to restore the terraced garden to its former glory was one of the most difficult projects carried out on a national monument in the history of the Czech Republic. A particularly interesting feature of this picturesque garden close to the seat of power in the Czech lands is the restoration of two orangeries in the middle section. In the upper section there is also a new refreshments pavilion and toilet facilities. The gardeners have planted over 3,500 flowers, 8,500 shrubs and trees and 2,200 rose bushes. New lighting enables visitors to tour the gardens after dark. The bill for the reconstruction work has reached 200 million Czech crowns.
