Good food and good drink extend living
An exhibition about a history of food, eating and drinking in the Czech lands at the National Museum of Agriculture in Prague.
The exhibition deals not only with the development of eating habits of our ancestors, but also with transformations of places where the food is eaten. Visitors learn that above all natural conditions decided on the nutrition of the nation - composition and formation of soil, geographical latitude and altitude and climate. Just these conditions influenced the development of the food and a way of eating in small and large territorial units, and entire regions.
The exhibition brings a number of demonstrations, exhibits, texts and pictures of the history of cookery, ancient but also a current home and public dining and catering. Visitors can compare the kitchen equipment from the turn of the 19th and 20 century, they can see a medieval tavern and a sample of a pub from the beginning of last century. They acquaint with various types of foods and ways of their consumption, they'll know how use and what use is spice, learn how to properly store food . The visitors can also see old cookbooks and recipes.
On display at the exhibition there are objects that already do not exist in today's modern kitchens, including confectionery equipment, kitchen appliances, contemporary things and many other attractions. One of the displayed rarity is a tinny jug from 1740. The exhibition also offers an accompanying program for the public.

The National Museum of Agriculture was founded in 1891 as an initiative of organizers of the Jubilee Exhibition which was held in Prague. The basis of the museum´s collections were exhibits displayed at the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 and Ethnographic Exhibition in 1895. The Museum of Agriculture was then the part of the Ethnographic Museum and it became independent in 1918.
All branches of the National Museum of Agriculture in Prague are aimed with their scientific research, acquisition and presentation activities at covering all field of agriculture.
