Grabštejn Castle opens a new exhibition

The new exhibition recalls the personal connection between Josephine Clary-Aldringen, later Countess Clam-Gallas, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

This year, the management of castle is preparing a display reminiscent of the relationship Josephine Clary-Aldringen later married Clam-Gallas and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The young Beethoven was behind the first public entrances, and then went on concert tour, the first stop was Prague. Here he met the charming Josephine, who inspired him so much that he devoted her some of his compositions. Although the life journeys of both protagonists went in different direction, this short story inspired the exposure on the 2nd floor of the castle. Visitors can just look into the life of these two significant personalities.

The castle Grabštejn is at the heart of Threeland, the place where the borders of three states are affected - the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. When the castle exactly was founded, is still unaware, but it is certain that it has been standing in the 13. century. The gothic castle was rebuilt in a representative seat during the 16th century. The castle experienced the biggest boom under rule of families Gallas and Clam-Gallas. From 1980s the castle is reconstructed. Thanks to this reconstruction the beauty of the former castle is uncovered by degrees.
