Historical Znojmo grape harvest festival, Sep 12, 2008 - Sep 13, 2008
This traditional town festival, which was held for the first time in 1966, commemorates the visit to Znojmo of John of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia, with his retinue in 1327.
The historical procession parades through the town on Friday evening, and again on Saturday afternoon. There is also a jousting tournament in the Premonstratensian monastery of Znojmo-Louka on Friday and Saturday. During the festival, there will be a ceremonial opening of the beer halls and bars, an historic market place, street theatres, sword fighting, fireworks, popular artists, contemporary music, brass bands and cimbal music, country groups, delicacies from old Czech recipes, wine and burčák (fresh wine). This rich cultural programme traditionally culminates in a fireworks display.
