The Czech Republic is a top destination for long-distance cross-country trails, which frequently follow the crests of mountains. All trails are well marked and regularly maintained.
In the Krkonoše Mountains, there are more than 550 km of well marked trails during the winter season, many of them linked with the 90-kilometre Krkonoše cross-country highway. The roughly 115 km of maintained cross-country trails of the Jizera Highway runs through the Jizera Mountains. The high-quality, maintained network of ski trails in the Šumava National Parkcontributes not only to the comfort and convenience of those taking part in sports but also to the protection of nature. More than 100 km of trails have been arranged for cross-country skiers in the Beskid Mountains, including the Lysá Mountains Highway, cross-country trails in the Pusteven area, and routes traversing the mountains of the Těšín Beskids.
