Karlovy Vary’s Thermal Spring from Underground
In the glass pavilion at the Thermal Spring colonnade in the centre of Karlovy Vary, the main spring (Thermal Spring) spouts 12 metres high.
From a balneotechnical point of view, the colonnade serves as a node for hot spring water distribution. The exhibition takes a tour through the underground of the Thermal Spring, providing a view of the complex of pipes that supplies 14 health resort operations, the regulatory bore-holes and spring sintered sedimentation on the walls in the corridors.
The current viewing route in the reconstructed historic underground of the Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring is 20 metres longer than before and takes the visitors up to the old spring area.
In the promenade hall, open daily from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., one can see not only the Thermal Spring fountain but also five other spring outflows. Visitors can take the Thermal Spring water at its natural temperature (72°C) or have it cooled down in a cup. The waters from the Thermal Spring are the only ones used today for spa treatments in baths or for the drinking cure. The water is supplied to the spa sanatoriums directly from the underground of the Thermal Spring colonnade.
