Lednice Chateau opens formerly inaccessible interiors
At the Lednice Chateau, the once inaccessible part of the second floor was opened in summer 2008.
Exhibitions on life at the noble estate are held in the newly reconstructed rooms. The Lednice-Valtice area has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996.
The current appearance of the chateau dates back to 1846–1858, when Prince Alois II of Lichtenstein decided that Vienna was not suitable for holding summer celebrations and thus ordered the reconstruction of Lednice into a prestigious summer residence in the Anglo-gothic style. The social halls on the ground floor, which were decorated with carved ceilings, wood-panelled walls and elegant furniture, and which are without equal in Europe, served for holding magnificent gatherings of the European nobility.
The chateau is surrounded by a lovely park with a Minaret and the English style Janův castle ruin. At the grounds, visitors can also visit the Malawi aquarium or the birds of prey show. Various associated events, which have already become a tradition at Lednice, take place throughout the season – carriage rides, boat cruises, birds of prey presentation, archery, sword fighting displays, promenade concerts.
