Monastery garden Zahrada* in Broumov
A unique area with its original unrivalled atmosphere... A mysterious place surrounded by walls of stone where small boys and girls used to come to look for adventure.
In July 2006, the Agency for Development of the Broumov Region (APRB), a civic association, entered with the Benedictine Abbacy of St. Wenceslas into a lease contract of the monastery garden north of the Broumov Monastery in order to restore these gardens, open them to the public and create an original place for exhibitions, concerts and performances of artists of various kinds.
The festive opening of the monastery garden Zahrada* for the public took place on May 19, 2007. In 2007, the pilot project consisting of concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions and cultural events took place in the monastery garden Zahrada*. The project of reconstructing and restoring the garden will be completed in 2008.
Since there are more “gardens” in the town, the authors of the monastery garden project decided to differentiate this place by consistently using an asterisk after the word Zahrada*. The asterisk represents a notional continuation of the text, which can be an adjective carrying the meaning of cultural, social, relaxing, musical, community-oriented as well as beautiful, pleasant and the like.
