Museum and Gallery of the Northern Pilsen Region at Mariánská Týnice

Regional museum is located in a former Cistercian pilgrimage place 40 km north of Pilsen.

Beginnings of the pilgrimage place in Mariánská Týnice go back to 1230 and are associated with activities of the Cistercian monastery in Plasy. The prosperity of the place began in the second half of the 17th century, when the provost residence was founded and the original church was enlarged here.

The Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady, a two-storey building of a provost residence and cloisters with fresco paintings were built according to plans designed by Jan Blazej Santini in the 18th century.

The Regional Museum is located here since 1952.

History of Mariánská Týnice and the Marian cult:
The latest archaeological findings, Santini's Baroque building, a fate of the monastery after its abolishmen, its resumption and reconstruction. Marian pilgrimage place, sculptures, paintings.

The historical development of the northern Pilsen:
Prehistoric history - archaeological findings, Gothic art, the former oratory with liturgical objects, guild sights, culture of19th century.

Ethnographic exhibition: (newly opened in 2010)
Folk customs, beekeeping, chapel with folk art, country house interior – a small room and a house-place, a grange and farming implements. Iron-foundry and products of ironworks of Plasy from 19th century. Country forge.

Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady:
Reconstructed high Baroque monument, restored dome and interior with fresco paintings.

A lot of exhibitions and cultural events such as concerts, theatrical performances take place here too.
