Mystery of Trojan Chronicle. Beginning of the Czech book printing
The exposition of the National Library of the Czech Republic presents to visitors the history of starting up of the book printing from different perspectives in the Czech lands.
It also tries to explain some substantial changes which printing has brought people in the late Middle Ages.
Visitors of the exhibition can look forward to, among other things, seven known prints from the first printing workshop in Bohemia, operating from about 1476 in West Bohemian Pilsen.
A preliminary part of the exhibition reveals a printing of one sheet´s block pictures, shows self technology of Gutenberg invention of printing with movable letters and expansion of printing from Germany to other European countries.
From funds of the National library of the Czech Republic will be presented in addition to all three Gutenberg´s prints a selection of unique and visually attractive collection of colored wood-blocks of Gutenberg era.
Visitors will see firstly exposed so-called indulgenced list, issued in order to collect funds to a fight against the Turks and to defend against Cyprus, which was made by Johann Gutenberg in Mainz in 1454.
Follow section presents the city of Plzen, a cradle of Czech printing, and its often dramatic developments in the 15th century.
