NATO Days in Ostrava

The 10th year of the greatest air-military-security show in Central Europe.

Over 70 pieces of aeronautical technics of armies of ten countries will be presented in the NATO Days, which will be held at Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport in Mošnov. The weekend show will take place on 18 and 19 September 2010. The event is uncommercial that´s why the admission is free.

The weekend show of NATO Days will consists of exhibitions of heavy military, police and rescue technics, dynamic demonstrations of special units training, air displays and presentation of armament, equipage and unit equipment. Nowhere else it is possible to see the latest technics used by soldiers, firemen, policemen, customs officers, prison officers, municipal police and other elite units in one place. Every year, organizers try to offer something especial to visitors. Various meetings, seminars and film projections will go on before the weekend show.

In parallel with the event the first annual of Days of Air Forces of Army of the Czech Republic will be held here. The participation of the heavy strategic air bomber of B-52H US Air Force will be ranged among the biggest attraction. The British aircraft will show a dynamic demonstration with vertical take-off and landing Harrier for the first time. By now it was presented only in a static display here.

The event is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Moravian-Silesian Region, NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the City of Ostrava. Organizers of the NATO Days in Ostrava are Jagello 2000, Army of the Czech Republic, Fire Rescue Brigade of Moravian-Silesian Region, Regional Police Directorate of Police of the Czech Republic and Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport.

The history of an international aviation at the Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport in Mošnov dates back to years 1909 – 1914, when the Žurovec brothers made their aviation experiments in this locality. The current place of the airport was firstly used for air traffic by the German Luftwaffe, which built an airfield here in 1939. Constuction works started on the current site of the Ostrava airport in 1956 and 3 years later the civilian air traffic started here. The airport served also to military needs. The operation of the military section of the airport was closed in 1993. Nowadays you can come across airplanes of various airlines from all over the world as well as czech airlines.
