New tour area at Chateau Valtice
An area of 4 rooms was newly opened in the 2008 season and will serve as a picture gallery in the future. The area will be completed with original furniture auctioned in Amsterdam in 2008.
Chateau Valtice is written in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The current appearance of the Valtice Chateau complex is the result of construction from the first half of the 17th century, when the endeavour of the powerful house of Lichtenstein to build Valtice into a princely estate was almost complete. At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, Johann Bernard Fischer von Erlach, who prepared the project for the overall Baroque reconstruction of the chateau, arrived in Valtice. The implementing architect was the Italian Domenico Martinelli. In 1713, he began construction of the two wings of the forecastle area, and later the stable and riding hall. Although the project was not fully realised, the chateau is regarded as one of the most prominent examples of Baroque architecture in the Czech Republic. In its immediate surroundings, a Baroque garden was constructed, but this was later transformed into a natural landscaped park. With its furniture, and in accordance with the interior decoration, the current period installation creates the perception of an exquisite Baroque environment.
Warning for visitors: change of opening hours:
On October the chateau is open only over the weekend.
