Nový Hrad near Jimlín lives again
The castle has already been under reconstruction for a number of years and is accessible to the public in 2008 for the first time.
The first mention of the castle dates from the 14th century, when the knight Záviš of Jimlín, who fought on the side of Jan of Luxembourg, built his fortress above the village of Jimlín.
The original fortress was converted to a castle in 1465 and was later rebuilt again in the renaissance style. Between 1815 and 1816, it served as a military hospital.
Because Nový Hrad is still undergoing reconstruction, the castle is offering a limited service to interested visitors, on the first Saturday of every month and on certain significant days in the year.
Additional information on cultural events held at the Nový Hrad chateau is available on the web site of the Louny Regional Museum. For larger groups interested in visiting the chateau, it is also possible to organise individual tours by prior arrangement.
