Opening of the spa season

Czech spas are, of course, open all year, but the start of the main spa season in early May is always a grand social event.

Ceremonial opening of the spa season in spas attracts annually not only foreign visitors but also Czech tourists and local residents.

Opening of the season in Marienbad has a long tradition. In 2008 the city celebrated the bicentuary. The season was officially started by a concert at the Colonnade on the 1st May. The first Sunday in May was the festive sacring of springs. This tradition continued to this day, all but the date - now the sacring of springs and opening of the season always held the second weekend in May (this year falls it on May 8 - 10).

The celebrations will start as usual by Friday evening concert permormed by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. A rite of sacring will begin on Saturday by a festive mass in the Church of the Assumption and will continue to a festive procession around the Reitenberg´s memorial to The Cross Spring.
By this rite of sacring of the springs the season will be open.
