Path of Life. Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel
An exhibition held by the Jewish Museum in Prague and the Prague Castle for the 400th anniversary of the death of Rabbi Loew.
On September 7, 2009 will mark the 400th anniversary of the death of the renowned rabbi Judah Liva (Loew) ben Bezalel, known as the Prague Maharal.
This exhibition aims to describe the Maharal’s life and work and to examine the image of this scholar in the eyes of his contemporaries and succeeding generations.
The exhibition will focus on both the historical Maharal as well as the legends that are linked to his name. The exhibition will feature objects, books and archival materials from the collections of the Jewish Museum in Prague, as well as items on loan from various Czech and foreign institutions. Visitors also will learn about the development of the Prague ghetto and the Jewish cemetery in the time of Rabbi Loew.
There will be a few accompanying programs completive the exhibition Path of Life. The Golem, by Petr Nikl will be exposed at the Museum’s Robert Guttmann Gallery from 3 June to 4 October 2009. A large catalogue for the exhibition in Czech and English versions will be issued in association with the Academia publishing house.
The exhibition is held under the auspices of Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, Václav Jehlička, the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic and Pavel Bém, the Mayor of the City of Prague.
