Place where the Royal Krušovické Beer is brewed
Almost halfway between Prague and Karlovy Vary, the Krušovice Royal Brewery is located.
The royal brewery brews beer and distributes it not only in Bohemia and beyond its borders. Visitors can acquaint with the production of beer, a brewery history, and other interest during a guided tour.
The first written mention of the brewery related to 1581. An important year is 1583, when Emperor Rudolf II. bought the brewery from Jiri Birka and affiliated it to Křivoklát estate. The emperor let the beer carry to the Prague Castle. The brewery began to develop rapidly, thanks to its location on trade routes from Prague to the German lands, both high quality of domestic barley and hops, which were grown in the surrounding. A good quality of water from Křivoklát was also important. During the Thirty Years War, the brewery was repeatedly ransacked and later burnt down, but always there was a rapid recovery of production. Then the brewery was sold to property of Arnost Josef of Wallenstein. From 1731 until 1945 it kept the family of Fürstenberg. This family also developed and modernized the brewery. The brewery survived both world wars, after 1945 was included in several corporations (Central Breweries National Entreprise Great Popovice).
The Breweries Krušovice, a state enterprise, was established by a foundation charter of the Ministry of Agriculture on 28th December 1990.
Recent awards: on 17 th September: Krušovice Black Beer won the first place in the prestigious category of the World Beer Awards for World's Best Dark Lager. The international jury assessed hundreds of beers from Great Britain, the United States, Australia and Japan.
Krušovice Musketeer Beer won the following awards: the second best lager of the Czech Republic for year 2009.
Beer lovers can also visit a newly opened Museum of brewing in Krušovice, which is located on the first floor of the municipal office.
Brewery Museum was established thanks to the collection of Joseph Fencl. In a museum you can see exhibits which Joseph Fencl have saved and collected, or which he produced itself.
All exhibits were originally located at Fencl´s house. He decided to displace it to make the museum easily accessible to people. There are unique models of historic breweries: a model of Krušovice brewery from 19th century, models of breweries in Kolešovice, Cítoliby, Nižbor, Ročov, Hostomice and Čistá, some of them did not already exist. You can find filling machines here, a collection of beer bottles with labels, coopers tools and there is not missing a section devoted to hop growing.
