Prague puts limits on public alcohol consumption
Following a trend in a number of cities around Europe, Prague has decided to regulate the consumption of alcohol in public places.
It’s hoped that this will help in the fight against drunks who tarnish the city’s otherwise excellent reputation.
The new regulation came into force on July 7 and bans the consumption of alcohol in general and in various areas of the city in particular. The police can apprehend anyone drinking within 100m of a school, a healthcare facility, the entrance to a metro station, in children’s playgrounds and in buildings used for public transport.
The regulations do not apply to beer gardens, refreshment stalls which sell alcohol and special events such as wine festivals, harvest festivals and New Year’s parties.
