Smetana Days
The largest music festival in Pilsen. The city will revive by culture from February 7 - March 15, 2010.
The festival characterizes an interpenetration of genres, unique musical experiments and inspiring innovative approach, but the main axis of the program remains classical music performed by top performers.
The main theme of the festival and scientific symposium on culture of the 19th century is Crime and Punishment this year.
Already the 30th annual of multi-genre festival The Smetana days will resound with themes of crime and punishments. An interpretation of fateful theme in the original design will offer more than two dozen concerts and theater and film performances. The dramaturgic line continues old traditions of previous years, when concerts of classical music are accompanied by a thematic exhibition, symposiums and international piano competition. Compared to previous years theater and film performances have been added.
Crime and punishment in the adaptation of Dostoyevsky's novel will interpret Theater in Řeznická. Among the head of the festival will include concert Messa da Requiem by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi and the theme of crime and punishment will sound in Moravian folk songs permormed by Jaroslav Hutka and Radim Hladik. In addition to Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale opera presented by young singers of the Pilsen Conservatoire and a concert Inheritance of the past in works of West Bohemian composers, an international piano competition will adorn the festival.
The festival also includes various special events and one of them is a popular carnival. A procession of mummers and Old Czech pig-sticking will be on February 21, 2010.
