The First Czech Museum of Cycling in Nové Hrady
The first Czech museum of cycling can be found in the reconstructed baroque granary of the chateau at Nové Hrady.
Here, exhibits are displayed from the private collection of a Czech cyclist who has been engaged in this field since he was 15.
The granary museum provides visitors with information on the historic development of cycling. Displayed on the ground floor is a representative collection of bicycles dating from their earliest days to the second half of the 19th century, the substantial part of which consists of exhibits from the Austrian-Hungarian period. On the first floor there are two panoramic exhibitions – the first representing the period covering the world wars, when bicycles played an irreplaceable role, and the second allowing us to look into an historic repair workshop and an original sales room from the early 1930s. Here, visitors can learn about the conditions in which bicycles were repaired and sold in those times.
