The Gregor Mendel Museum in Brno has a new exhibition
The museum presents the life and scientific work of Gregor Mendel, whose discovery of the laws of heredity laid the foundations for genetics.
The exhibition combines historic documentation with artworks by contemporary European artists inspired by genetics. In the summer months the Mendel Garden showcases research into plant cross-breeding, Mendel’s experiments with beekeeping and local meteorological observations.
Manuscripts, books, equipment and personal belongings of genetics founder Gregor Johann Mendel belongs to the most interesting exhibits of the new permanent exhibition of Mendel Museum in Brno. The exhibition is located in the Augustinian Abbey in old part of Brno, where the renowned scientist worked once as a monk.
The new exhibition presents Mendel not only like a discoverer of genetics laws, but as a complex personality, which is interested in many sphreres such as meteorology and fruit. The beekeeping passion evidences preserved wooden apiaries.
One hall is devoted to the history of the abbey, which was an important intellectual center of Brno before a foundation of University. The most famous Mendel´s experiments with peas recalls showcase in the form of pea and number of pots, in which visitors can put their own plants.
At the exhibition people will hear a music and smell a scent of honey and wax at the apiaries.
