The Museum of Crafts at Nový Dvůr in Letohrad has extended its exhibitions
The museum has extended its exhibition of mechanical machines. New exhibits include a sawmill with three historic frame-saws and workshops of wood-processing workers.
Visitors will see the sawmill with the frame-saws in motion during every visit. One frame-saw dates back to 1836. Tools used by shinglers, wheelwrights, coopers, carpenters and cabinetmakers are on display in the woodworking shops. All featured exhibits are originals.
Established in 2000, the museum is located in the historically protected premises of Nový Dvůr, which date back to 1750. It covers an area of 1,300 square meters and is the biggest museum of its kind in the Czech Republic. It houses more than 50 comprehensive exhibitions on crafts and trades from 1850 to 1930. Among the most interesting exhibits are a carved mechanical open-air museum of crafts and the mechanical workshops. The permanent exhibition “Fauna of the Czech Republic” is intended especially for younger visitors. It shows about 120 stuffed animals, birds and fish in natural environs with original sounds.
After touring the museum, visitors can spend some time in the stylish Nový Dvůr Restaurant situated in the same building as the museum. For 2009, the museum is preparing an exhibition devoted to book printing.
