The Outlook Tower of Vladimír Menšík in Hlína
The biggest attraction of the municipality of Hlína is the newly constructed outlook tower standing near the place where the oldest outlook tower of the South Moravia, built in 1910, used to stand.
The Outlook Tower of Vladimír Menšík was opened in Hlína near Ivančice in the Brno Region. One of the oldest outlook towers of Moravia used to stand on a hill above the village in the years 1910 through 1938. It was demolished before World War II because of its poor technical condition. Now, a new outlook tower was built. It bears the name of the famous actor who often mentioned his hometown of Ivančice in his stories.
The new outlook tower is more than 22 metres high and it has a modern design. A total of 96 stairs lead up the outlook tower. After ascend to the top, one can see the Pavlovské Hills near Mikulov to the south, White Carpathian Mountains to the east, Hostýnské Hills somewhat further and, if the weather is very nice, even the peaks of the Alps. The outlook tower is a supplement to the Vladimír Menšík exhibition in Ivančice.
The outlook tower is only open during weekends. If there is unfavourable weather (strong wind, a storm, a blizzard), the outlook tower is closed! It is possible to arrange a visit outside the opening hours for a group of more than 10 persons in advance over the telephone or directly at the outlook tower with its manager.
