The Paradise Islands – a new exhibition in the Děčín Zoo
A unique exhibition with a large aquarium, presenting endangered species of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates.
4 floors of the newly reconstructed building offer its visitors a view of selected world areas and their fauna and flora.
Each visitor of the Paradise Islands goes aboard the fabulous Flying Dutchman ship to become a sea-farer and discoverer. The tour is stylized as a journey around the world, during which the incredible life on the sea bed, on the mangrove coast, in the tropical rainforest or in the semi-deserts can be admired.
The ground floor of the Paradise Islands exhibition looks like an old ship and shows its visitors the life on a coral reef. What makes the exhibition unique is a 6000-liter sea aquarium, which is the largest of its kind in the whole Ústí nad Labem Region. The first floor takes the sailors to some of the west Pacific islands and to the mangrove coast with local animals. The second floor shows the islands of Southeast Asia and the fauna of tropical forests. Visitors will also find here a night primate and a small exhibition of walking-leaves. The third floor represents the Caribbeans area and semi-deserts with the rare and endangered iguanas. The fourth and last floor contains the so-called ZooClub, which is equipped with unconventional furniture and serves as a seminar room for schools, discussions and lectures.
