One of the oldest castles in the South Bohemia was built by the Family of Vítek around the mid 13th century. This castle involves a complex of two Rožmberk castles, the so-called Upper castle and the Lower castle from the 14th century, enlarged in the Renaissance style, adjusted in Baroque, in the 19th century completely rebuilt in the Pseudo-Gothic style into a residence of the Buquoy family. From the Upper castle only the tower Jakobínka has preserved, which is not accessible. In the Lower castle historical interiors (a knights hall, a picture gallery, an armoury etc.) with period furnishings and collection. Newly accessible hangman’s house.
The present-day sightseeing route acquaints visitors with the oldest members of the Buquoy family. The last Rožmberks and the White Lady Perchta of Perštejn, who appeares in this castle, are mentioned too.
