Unique violins of four centuries in the Municipal House
An unique collection of violins of four centuries of private European collections present an exhibition in Prague's Municipal House.
A violin virtuoso Jaroslav Svěcený prefaced the exhibition by an opening concert in The Smetana´s Hall on 30th September, 2009.
He played exposed violins and completed it by an accompanying word. The rare instruments sounded in compositions of Vivaldi, Telemann, Bach and Kreisler.
The exhibition is a project that was prepared two years. It shows fifty exhibits, of which forty master violins and a collection of fiddlesticks. A price of the rarest of French origin several times exceeds the price of domestic instruments. The value of the violins moves in a few milions amounts, but the historical cost is incalculable. Instruments are displayed in special showcases due to a constant temperature and lighting to not suffer spiritious and oily lacquers, which cover them.
A similar exhibition took place in Prague 116 years ago. Then it was organized by a violinist Karel Boromejský Dvořák, who worked in France. Two of his instruments are also displayed here.
The exhibition includes an original equipment of violin-maker workshop. The exhibition runs at the Municipal House till 29th November, when it will close a concert.
