ZOO Ohrada at Hluboká nad Vltavou
The zoological gardens lie close to the beautiful castle at Hluboká nad Vltavou. Its attractive location and cosy atmosphere make it an attraction for the whole family.
Opened to the general public for the first time on 1 May 1939, ZOO Ohrada is the third oldest zoo in the Czech Republic. Only Prague Zoo (1931) and Liberec Zoo (1919) are older. In recent years, the zoo has undergone large-scale alterations. Among the finest of the new pavilions are the water exhibits, with Eurasian otters and aquariums for fish and crustaceans. In addition, the public has shown great interest in the Australian corner with its kangaroos, parrot aviaries and night-time terrarium. In 2007, the zoo opened its new Centre for Environmental Education.
Starting from July 2008, visitors to the zoo are able to see the American Fauna Pavilion, which has been named Koati after the native name for the South American Coati, or Ring-tailed Coati.
